Goyder Shire Council Raise the Bar

Goyder Shire Council, located in the picturesque area of Burra, South Australia, recently invited tenders for the replacement of their Track Mounted Impact Crusher. While the Crusher is still in good condition after four to five years, Council was seeking better reliability and, of course, more production. To this end, companies were invited to tender. The crusher had to be of a similar weight and size (approximately 30 tonnes) to councils existing crushing plant; fitted with weigh scales; remote controlled; and comply with the latest Occupational Health and Safety Standards (safety lanyard, stop switches, platforms etc.).

LT1110Screenmasters Australia won the day with a Track Mounted Impact Crusher, Nordberg LT1110. “It has already paid us dividends”, says Brian Guthrie, Head of Works for Goyder Council. “We have increased production from 180 tonnes per hour (run of crush 30mm) to 350 tonnes per hour at the same quarry. We could do more but we have to stop and move the stockpiling conveyor.”

The reason for the increased production on the Nordberg LT1110 is the control the IC500 PLC gives the crusher.  The rotor speed can be adjusted anywhere from 550 rpm to 900 rpm within seconds at the push of a button, “no need to remove V belts re align pulleys and move engine bays”. The PLC controls the rotor speed to + or – 20 rpm of what it is set at. Additionally the feeder and the crusher communicate with each other through the PLC exchanging parameters (crusher pressure, feeder minimum speed, feeder maximum speeds etc.). This allows for the crushing operator, with the help of the PLC, to have full control over the crushing process and consistent production rates.

“It was a unanimous decision by council to choose this machine”, says Roy O’Conner, Acting Council Manager, “you can see the quality in the machine, the way it is finished off, we are extremely happy with the investment.” At a later stage the council may, if they wish, add a screen and a conveyor to this existing crushing plant and have a closed circuit crusher giving them added flexibility. There are no major adjustments needed to the existing machine to accommodate this retrofit it is simply a question of hooking up the screen with quick release couplings, then you really have three machines in one.

  • A primary crusher accepting 600mm feed.
  • A secondary crusher accepting 35mm feed.

A primary and secondary crusher with a screen in a closed circuit accepting 600mm feed, end product 100% passing 20mm (or as required).
