Shock and Awe Arrives in Adelaide

LT1315SAdelaide Resource Recovery (ARR) recently took delivery of the first Metso LT1315S Impact Crusher (with full specification) in the Southern Hemisphere. The unit is the eighth machine that ARR have purchased from Screenmasters Australia, the Metso Dealer for Australia.

ARR, one of the largest and most professional recycling companies in South Australia purchased the machine in order to satisfy the increased demand they are experiencing on a daily basis. “We already own two Metso LT1213S impact crushers, both have done more than 7000 hours, but we just need more capacity” says Matthew Size, ARR General Manager. “This crusher will give us 400/500 tph of 20mm minus concrete, the savings are endless, with fuel and wages being such a massive consideration these days the only way to combat these overheads is with more and more production, in less time”. Nicknamed ‘Shock and Awe’ by the staff at Screenmasters the LT1315S has productivity levels of between 600 and 800 tph depending on feed material.

LT1315SThe LT1315S comes with an optional split feed hopper, a 16 X 5 double deck screen, and the flexibility to either produce 4 products in one pass or just one product, when the unit is placed in a closed circuit. It is powered with a C15 CAT engine and controlled by an IC700 PLC. The crushing unit accepts 650mm feed material and will crush 100% passing 20mm and below if you alter the configuration. Best of all it can accept a variety of steel. In all the time that ARR have owned and operated the LT1213S crushers they have never had a problem with steel breaking blow bars or wear plates, supplied by Screenmasters, that’s over 14,000 hours of work in Demolition Concrete.

Roller GrizzlyThe split feed hopper on the LT1315S is a massive leap forward and is available as an option on all of Metso’s larger Crushers. The split feeder in the LT1315S comes with a 10m long X 800mm wide scalping belt capable of tonnages in excess of 200tph and a stockpiling height of 3.65 metres. This allows for all of the fines to be scalped out BEFORE the crusher resulting in less wear and more productivity, it even helps when the material is wet. The feeder is 2.7m long X 1.3m wide and has its own independent motors (MV2 Synchronised Vibrating Units – 2 of) the unit is split from the pan feeder and comes with a screen mesh located underneath the Grizzly, this enables the user to produce an accurate product – in the case of ARR 22mm minus. Screen area in the split feeder is 30ft² . In really sticky applications another option is the ‘Roller Grizzly’ (pictured).

The IC700 control system allows for the crusher and the split feeder to communicate with each other, pausing the feeder when the crusher is under pressure. This system ensures maximum throughput on a daily basis. Indeed the IC700 PLC measures and controls all parameters on the LT1315S, for example, the screen conveyors are equipped with sensors that will pause the feeder should they become overloaded, this grants the operator the confidence that even if he has not adjusted the closed side setting of the crusher, he will not ‘bog the unit’. This alone can save valuable downtime and thousands of dollars.

LT1315SThe Screening unit, a 16 X 5 top and bottom deck, has in excess of 10mm of throw, allowing for a very aggressive screen action, vital when you are screening material that has plastic and wood through it or indeed if its wet, this screen will not block up. Two or three conveyors can be attached to the Screen depending on the Customers requirements, in this configuration it would take 2 Excavators to keep up with the machine hence the name “SHOCK AND AWE”.

LT1315SPowered by a CAT C15, 540hp engine the LT1315S has all the power it needs to achieve the huge tonnages that today’s contractors need to make money, nothing substitutes for productivity. As Screenmasters have often said “you can get away with buying the wrong excavator, loader or truck but you CAN’T get away with buying the wrong crusher, the cash flow of any quarrying business.”
